PanRAT®
Within the world of wireless communications, RAT is short for Radio Access Technology, and refers generally to any radio technology utilized to provide radio access, to an otherwise wire-bound digital network.
RATs! They are everywhere!
Your cell phone network uses a RAT, your WiFi box uses a RAT, many ear-buds use a RAT, all GPS devices do. There are many wireless or digital radio communications protocols in common use today, like WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, CDMA, GSM, LTE, zigbee, etc. Each of these is a RAT. Historically, products sold for use with each of these wireless RATs, have required a dedicated integrated circuit, or chip set (multiple integrated circuits) inside, to operate with the one specific RAT used for that particular type of wireless device.
Pan as a prefix is typically used to mean all encompassing or universal. Pan-American historically meant covering all of the Americas.
PanRAT® then, means covering or able to work with all Radio Access Technologies, to even include any and all future RATs, those that have not been developed or defined yet.
Only a programmable access system, programmable to function with ANY Radio Access Technology POSSIBLE, can claim to be PanRAT®
